Festively Fall!

I hear the first day of Fall was yesterday... I didn't pay much attention because here in Sebastian, FL it is still pretty hot and humid.  My friends from up north laugh when I jump up and down with excitement because I feel a slight "crispness" in the air because the temp outside is 83 not 93.  It is true though! If you're a true Floridian you know what I am talking about! The slightest drop of temperature perks us up and feelings of excitement surface and there is an extra spring in our step.  This morning I ran down by the river and every few steps there was that little glimmer of hope that cooler weather is on its way.  Then it hits you, it's almost October! Ya, that is right 30 something days away from Halloween.  Will there be Halloween this year? I mean seriously, it has been a crazy year and most things have been canceled. I won't be surprised if the holidays are too.  With all that said, though, the outside world might cancel, but that doesn't mean you have to.  You have control of your own world and if you want to celebrate and decorate and bake and do whatever you normally do, then do it! On that  note, I am going to share some of my favorite things about Fall and I welcome you to do the same.

What I love the most about Fall.....

Are the colors.
There is something about the beautiful mixture of orange, brown, yellow and green. The colors alone spark feels of joy, festiveness and excitement. Maybe it reminds me of freshly baked pies in the oven or when I was a kid and lived up north for a short bit, raking up a bunch of leaves and then charging toward them and diving much fun!

The Aromas.
Oh the smells! They are so yummy. Apples, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and those woodsy smells.... so delish! doTERRA has an amazing blend once in a while call Harvest Spice and I love to diffuse it. Did you know that there is a big connection between what we smell and how we feel? Yes! When we inhale an aroma, there is a nerve at the top of our nose called the Olfactory nerve and it communicates with the limbic system in our brain. This system is where memories are stored and can be retrieved. Your sense of smell is the strongest of all your senses. That is why aromatherapy is so powerful and is used to boost moods and create feelings of happiness or lower feelings of anxiousness and overwhelm.

A couple of years ago I created a trifold with some delicious fall room sprays. You can use these same recipes in your diffuser too. Some include, Crisp Autumn, Pumpkin Pie, Fall Leaves to name a few.  If you'd like a copy, just fill out the form below.

The Feelings.
One thing I love about this time of year is what it brings out in others.  People seem refreshed like they just turned a new leaf (no pun intended). Well, it is a new season so that makes sense and most are about over the hot temps and ready for some chilly nights around an open fire roasting marshmallows.  Some start preparing for the holidays by decorating or listening to holiday music. Okay, some of you are reading this and saying slow is just Fall and we haven't gotten to Halloween yet....but that is the great thing.  It is different for all of us. I know for me it is a time of year where I reflect a lot and realize all the things I am grateful for.  Sometimes it just hits me more this time of year.  It brings about feelings of joy and love and also kindness to your fellow human.  The reality is, for some, it can be a depressing time of year.  And if you have lost someone, it can make you miss them more. I know I can relate to that.  But I think because of all of those things, it makes us think twice when we start to get upset over little things like the grocery store only having two cash registers open.

Whatever Fall does for you, I hope you enjoy this new season and I hope it is a reason for you to take time for yourself or just do something that has been on your mind.  Perhaps reconnect with an old friend or surprise someone you love when they least expect it.

Happy Fall y'all!
Your Oily Friend,
Shirley XO
