It’s time to put on your new bathing suit and relax by the pool or if you’re so lucky by the peaceful bliss of the ocean, but you’re worried about getting those irritating red bumps which can be embarrassing.  Well, you no longer have to walk around with a towel around your lower half.  Be free by applying this blend right after shaving.

SCREEN YOURSELF FROM THE SUN, NATURALLY
If you are looking for a more natural alternative to store-bought sunscreen, try this easy to make homemade sunscreen from doTERRA's blog.  The inclusion of zinc helps to protect against the sun. Hawaiian Sandalwood oil soothes and nourishes the skin and also offers IV protection. Using just a few ingredients, this Sunscreen DIY will get you ready for summer days and thanks to Hawaiian Sandalwood, you can promote smooth healthy skin in the process.

¼ cup of Shea butter
1 teaspoon carrot seed oil
2 tablespoons of zinc oxide
2–3 drops Hawaiian Sandalwood oil

Instructions:
  1. Melt coconut oil and Shea butter in a bowl over warm water.
  2. Add carrot seed oil and zinc oxide and mix together.
  3. Add in drops of Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil and stir.
  4. Place in a jar for storage. Allow cooling for 30 minutes in the fridge.

TOO MUCH SUN RELIEF SPRAY

You shouldn’t, but it happens to the best of us…..you get too much sun.  You put on sunscreen but fun happens, you forget about it and you forget to reapply.  You get home and suddenly, you seem to get redder and redder and hotter and hotter.  Yes, aloe is great so if you have plant, run outside, cut off a piece, snap it open and rub that all over, but if you’re not so lucky, keep this on hand in a glass spray bottle in the fridge.  Spray where it hurts and you will instantly feel the relief and be able to sleep at night without feeling you like you are sleeping on top of a bed of nails.

Recipe:

  • 6 oz. glass spray bottle
  • Lavender essential oil – 8 drops
  • Peppermint essential oil – 8 drops
  • Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil – 8 drops
  • 1 tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
  • Top it off with water
  • Keep in the refrigerator

SUNKISSED TAN, NATURALLY
Looking for a way to get that sunkissed tan before you’ve had time to hit the beach? These bronzing lotion sticks are the answer. These lotion sticks provide extreme moisture for dry winter skin and add a beautiful sun-kissed glow without the rays of the sun. These lotion sticks melt with the heat of your skin and are mess-free when stored in this convenient container.

Recipe:
⅓ cup beeswax
¼ cup shea butter
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E
20 drops of your favorite essential oil
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for bronzer (you could also use 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder)

Note: This recipe makes approximately four ounces of lotion.

Instructions:
  1. Add beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil, and vitamin E to glass jar and place in saucepan with one to one and a half inches of boiling water.
  2. Stir ingredients until combined (around 5–10 minutes).
  3. Once melted, remove from heat and let rest three minutes.
  4. Add essential oil and stir.
  5. For a bronzing effect, add one teaspoon of ground cinnamon and stir until combined. Tip: Use a popsicle stick for easy cleanup.
  6. Pour into container. Let cool one to two hours before use.

FEET-TASTIC

One part of our anatomy that seems to get neglected the most, but has the hardest job is our feet! And if you live in a climate where you wear a lot of open-toed shoes they get battered even more, often causing hard, callused and cracked heels.  If you don’t have the time to get a pedicure regularly, you can pamper your feet each night with this ever-so-soothing blend resulting in not only a wonderful night’s sleep but feet you won’t fret to flaunt!

Recipe:

  • 1 teaspoon of beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter
  • 4 tablespoons of shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon of Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
  • Peppermint essential oil – 5 drops
  • Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil – 5 drops
  • You can also add Frankincense & Neroli which are very nourishing to the skin.

Instructions:

  • In a small glass container, combine all ingredients except essential oils
  • Place in a saucepan with 1 ½ inches of boiling water
  • Stir ingredients until combined (approx.. 7 minutes)
  • Once melted, remove from heat and let rest for 3 minutes
  • Add essential oils and stir
  • Let mixture come to a solid state. To quicken this, place in the refrigerator
  • Once solid, use an electric mixer to whip it up into a lotion
  • Gradually increase whipping speed for 3 to 4 minutes or until light and fluffy
  • Place in desired container and enjoy using to rub on heels to help soften and soothe them!

Tip: for best results, add a generous amount to feet with socks before bed.

ORANGE YOU GLAD YOU HAVE A BLENDER & OILS?

Let’s face it, summer is HOT and depending on where you live, more so for some than others.  Like the temperature, cravings for something cool and refreshing are on the rise.  This delicious smoothie is of my favorites and it bursts with flavor!  So, get out that blender and enjoy!  It tastes so good you will want to drink it fast, but be careful, you don’t want to get a frozen brain…if you do though, put your tongue or thumb on the roof of your mouth and that pain will quickly subside.

Recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons of Vanilla yogurt (or plain)
  • Fresh strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • Coconut water
  • Sprinkle on some ground flax seed (optional)
  • 1 drop of Wild Orange essential oil (or favorite citrus oil)
  • Of course, you can improvise and add your favorites.  Some other essential oils I love in my smoothies are Tangerine, Lime, Lemon and Grapefruit.

PEPPERMINT BROWNIES or CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
You can't go wrong bringing a dish of something sweet to a party.  And most people love chocolate.  Here is something super easy.  Buy a box of brownies or some pre-made cookie dough (or make you're own from scratch if that's what you like to do) and all you need to do is add approximately 4 or 5 drops of Peppermint essential oil.  It is just the right amount to give these tasty treats some POW!  Everyone will love them, I promise you!

FUDGE BARS WITHOUT GUILT
doTERRA's Slim & Sassy® TrimShake Fudgesicles are a delicious and healthy way to cool off in the warm weather. Loved by adults and kids alike, these fudgesicles are full of protein and add a nutritious punch to this chocolatey sweet treat. You could even blend in some TerraGreens and your kids wouldn’t even know they are eating veggies!

1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons baking cocoa

  1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients.
  2. Beat until smooth.
  3. Pour in popsicle molds and insert popsicle sticks in middle.
  4. Place in freezer overnight.
Tip: For a yummy orange creamsicle, omit the cocoa, swap the chocolate TrimShake with Vanilla and add a few drops of Wild Orange oil.

WILD ORANGE FRUIT DIP
This is so easy to make and is a big hit because it is light, refreshing and healthy! (and you can always switch up the flavor by using other citrus essential oils such as lemon, lime or tangerine) Enjoy!
Recipe:
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages of Whipped Creme Cheese
  • 1 cup of vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 10 drops of Wild Orange essential oil (or to taste)

  • Instructions:
  • Mix all together in a medium to large bowl
  • Serve with crackers, apples, grapes, strawberries, carrots (or your favorites)

Wow, there are so many fun and yummy recipes that I can't fit them all into one blog.  If you have a favorite flavor and are interested in finding a recipe (e.g. lime is great to add to guacamole) just message me and I will help you find some great recipes that everyone will love!  For now, I hope you get great pleasure trying some of these and please pay it forward and share with your friends & family!  Most of all, I hope you have a SUPER summer full of sunshine and happiness!
